Our mission is to familiarize and engage students at TAMS with Quizbowl, a fast-paced academic competition spanning many interdisciplinary subjects including literature, science, history, mathematics, fine arts, sports, and even popular culture.
NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. Feel free to come to any of our practices and learn more about what Quizbowl is all about! We'd be happy to have you on the team and, even if you aren’t looking to compete, you are more than welcome to come have fun.

We are the TAMS Junior Engineering and Technical Society (JETS), TAMS's club for all things STEM! We make an impact in Denton and surrounding areas by helping educate and promote science to young students, with initiatives such as STEM night, SWENext, SciDemos, GEC, STEMBoxes, and our biannual Science Adventure Camps. We also bring home many medals in competitions! We compete in Science Olympiad, including the CyFalls, UT Austin, & 7 Lakes Invitationals and the Fort-Worth Regionals and State Science Olympiad, and we compete in SciBowl at invitationals and Regionals. We are excited for the upcoming school year and getting to meet all of you!

Hi, I’m Elliott (or Ellie), and I am a general science student who aspires to pursue chemical engineering with a focus in sustainability. Along with being JETS President, I am also the President of Nightingale Advocacy, a Chemistry Committee Head, a Ballot Buzz Head, and a Baking Committee Head! TAMS Gardening is a committee under Naturally focused on helping the environment and community through gardening and volunteering opportunities. We are currently preparing the TAMS community garden to eventually grow vegetables and other crops to better the TAMS community and McConnell Hall. This initiative is a key volunteering opportunity for students. Furthermore, we work with Denton Master Gardeners to provide gardening help at the Good Samaritan home community.
Gardening is not only beneficial to the environment, but also provides positive mental health breaks and an opportunity for service hours

Hey, everyone! I’m Anika Chebrolu, your Research Organization president for this year. My research focuses on utilizing genome engineering techniques to develop novel plasmids that detect sudden appearances of harmful salts in freshwater ecosystems. Outside of RO, I’m also a Judicial Board executive and a Society for Women Engineers committee head. In my free time, I love to dance, try new boba combinations, and meet new people, so please feel free to reach out! My research revolves around using crystalline structures of metal ions and organic polymers to non-addictively release opioids. Outside of RO I am an active member of the south asian dance club DOCKED under the Kuthu division and I love playing the drumset. I love to dance to all kinds of Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu songs and I perform at any chance I get. Hey! I’m Rifa Gowani, your Co-Competitions Director for this year! I’m on the traditional science track and am currently pursuing molecular dynamics research and a new field called cellular dynamics. I work with animating a simulation of embryonic stages of cells and with mRNA drug delivery with lipid nanoparticles. During my free time, I enjoy listening to music and spending time with friends. Occasionally, I also work on coding random projects. I love engaging in conversations about various topics, so don't hesitate to approach me for a chat about anything! The Artificial Intelligence Society (AIS) aims to increase the TAMS community’s understanding of artificial intelligence techniques and applications. Through guided study regular competitions, and volunteering opportunities, we will crystallize the process of creating machine learning algorithms and explore the multitude of problems they can be applied to. By the end of the year, members will have the skills to pursue AI-based projects on their own, which will be demonstrated by a cumulative group project showcase.

Ambassadors is a student-run organization that works with the Admissions Office and Recruiters at the Texas Academy of Math and Science to bridge the gap between current students and prospective TAMSters. By allowing students to take part in Preview Days, Spend-A-Days, and other outreach opportunities, Ambassadors helps the current TAMS students not only get to know their incoming peers but also create generational ties, allowing the TAMS family to include more than just the students currently attending the school. Each of your current Ambassadors' execs works on a mutual level allowing the most efficient work to be completed for the TAMS students. By joining Ambassadors, you can help make a difference in the TAMS community by inspiring other students to join the Academy and thus increasing the overall success of the program.

The Denton Nursing Home (DNH) committee is under both the Tams Medical Society (TMS) and Helping Other People Everywhere (HOPE) clubs. This committee seeks to offer opportunities for TAMS students to spend time with senior citizens doing a variety of activities like playing games, making cards, and participating in events throughout the year. A few regular opportunities to look out for are card-making GAs for the residents at nursing homes, consistent in-person volunteering opportunities, as well as fun GAs with cool prizes. Being involved with our committee provides an excellent chance to make an impact in the larger Denton community and get volunteer hours. We are so excited to be able to interact with the senior citizens face to face this upcoming year and we have so much in store!

TMS Alzheimer's Care is dedicated to providing clinical volunteering opportunities and educating students on working with Alzheimer's patients. The mission of the TAMS Biomedical Engineering is to create a community of students passionate about biomedical engineering by fostering education, research, and outreach. By hosting fun workshops and events, we want to grow an interest in the field of biomedical engineering. We hope to help students interact with UNT professors from the BME department and subsequently discover labs to conduct research in. Finally, we look forward to hosting regular volunteer opportunities at local elementary and middle schools to teach biology, computer-aided design, and other engineering concepts.

Welcome to TAMS Healing with Music! A joint committee with Dull Roar, TAMS Healing with Music aims to bring the joy of music to nursing homes through student performances. Our mission is to provide students with the opportunity to perform at nursing homes and have a fun time with our peers while giving residents of nursing homes a musical experience. Healing with Music is for musicians of various instruments who enjoy playing for their and others' enjoyment. By providing a platform for musicians to showcase their talents, we strive to create meaningful experiences for both the performers and the residents. Stethoscope is a publication that delves into the dynamic world of medicine, offering unique insights from students. The committee allows students writing for the magazine to gain perspective on the latest in medical research, healthcare innovations, and interdisciplinary collaborations with medical applications. McConnell Hall Association is the student life organization at the Texas Academy of Math and Science. The primary goal of our club is to maintain a friendly and welcoming community to all TAMS students and create meaningful relationships between TAMS and UNT students through our connection with RHA. Our events include holding a variety of social events at McConnell Hall throughout the school year such as Homecoming, TAMSgiving (a student run Thanksgiving dinner), and Prom. Denton Nursing Home (DNH) is a joint committee, under both Helping Other People Everywhere (HOPE) and TAMS Medical Society (TMS). DNH provides students the opportunity to interact with the residents of the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home, twice a week. Our volunteering opportunities include making crafts, hosting parties, and, in general, playing games and spending time with the residents of the nursing home. We plan on holding a diverse array of events, such as holding a prom for the Nursing Home Residents and making gift boxes, in order to make an impact on the nursing home and the Denton community.

This is TAMS Elm Fork Education Center Volunteering, a committee of HOPE! Our mission is to implement environmental education programs that encourage responsible environmental decision making for students of all ages. We provide opportunities for TAMS students to help run field trips and homeschool labs. Volunteering with us is a very easy way to give back to UNT and to inspire children to be passionate about science.

Food for Thought is dedicated to providing those in the Denton area with a consistent means of obtaining food. Our volunteering includes programs at the UNT Food Pantry and other surrounding food bank and soup kitchen organizations.

Every night, there are an estimated 553,742 people in the United States experiencing homelessness. Through Habitat for Humanity (HFH), a committee under Helping Other People Everywhere (HOPE), we have the power to help change that. We have multiple volunteering opportunities each month to give back to the Denton community, helping families in need of decent and affordable housing. Volunteering is hands-on, involving construction work such as landscaping, cleaning, and painting.

High School Tutoring is a HOPExTAS committee focused on helping local Denton high school students with STEM-related curriculum. TAMS volunteers will each be paired with a student from one of these high schools and will work with them on whatever academic help they need.

The overarching goal of the Library Committee is to break down barriers in education and to provide all students with equal opportunities. Our main volunteering project throughout the year is with the Denton Public Library, where we help biweekly with anything the library needs. Libraries can be an oasis of information in areas that lack other resources. TLC works to facilitate the library’s operations in an effort to expand its reach, In addition, this year, we are looking to hold a book drive to collect books for students in third world countries that don’t have access to them.

This is a committee under Helping Other People Everywhere (HOPE) and will occur every other Friday. REVIVE allows students to play board games, watch movies, make arts and crafts, and video games.

Shiloh Field Community Garden is this year's new joint committee under Hope and Naturally! Shiloh Field Community Garden provides students the opportunity once a week to grow fresh produce at Denton's very own Shiloh Field. At Shiloh Field volunteers serve the community by tending to the 152 individual plots, with fruit trees, blackberries, chickens, honey bees, a vineyard, composting, and more! This is a great opportunity to learn more about the food we eat and to feed those who are hungry. 

Hoofbeats aims to help engage students in the amazing healing process of equine therapy. We work with New Hope organization in Argyle, Texas where you will be able to aid in therapeutic horseback riding for young students with a variety of disabilities.

Teen Court provides members of the TAMS community with opportunities to volunteer at the Denton Municipal Teen Court on the first and third Tuesday of every month. Volunteers can participate as attorneys or jury members in cases with other Denton teens. As a result, Teen Court volunteers are exposed to real-world settings and provide a great service to our city at large.

Fold for HOPE is dedicated to arts and crafts with Cumberland Presbyterian Home. Our goal is to spread joy to children through arts and crafts, such as origami. We meet with them bimonthly for two hours at a time.

 Game On is a Hope X Sports Club Committee that focuses on coaching students from Denton ISD schools. Through after-school camps and sporting events, Game On hopes to improve students' physical well-being, enhance their teamwork and communication skills, boost their confidence, and foster a sense of discipline and commitment.

Welcome to Gift of Words (GOW), a student-led organization committed to closing the education gap exacerbated by the pandemic. Our organization was established in July 2020, and since then, we have awarded over 1200 service hours globally. We are pleased to offer TAMS students the opportunity to participate in two significant volunteering initiatives: the Letter-Writing and Mentoring Programs. Our Letter-Writing Program aims to alleviate the loneliness experienced by healthcare workers and senior citizens by providing them with heartfelt letters filled with thoughtful words. Our Mentoring Program brings together K-9 students and high school mentors for virtual educational tutoring and social activities such as arts and crafts.

GVS is a committee focused on providing free educational opportunities and tutoring services to underprivileged students living in the United States and India who have limited access to education due to gender, poverty, and various other issues. Through GVS, you will have the opportunity to volunteer and teach weekly lessons as a virtual tutor and have a lasting, positive impact on the educational careers of young students.

Our mission is to contribute to massive open source projects like Missing Maps, Wikisource, and the National Archives. No computer science experience is needed for any of these opportunities, and if you need any help, we’re here for you! We’ll be hosting monthly editathons this year, so feel free to join us if you just want to hang out. Volunteering hours will be determined by the number of contributions made to either project.
