Open Source

Heads: Iris Wang

We are the TAMS Open Source committee under CSO. Our mission is to contribute to massive open source projects like Missing Maps, Wikisource, and the National Archives. No computer science experience is needed for any of these opportunities, and if you need any help, we're here for you! We'll be hosting monthly editathons and workshops this year, so feel free to drop by whenever you're free. Volunteering hours will be determined by the number of contributions made to either project.

Web & App-Dev

Welcome to the 2025-2026 App & Web Development Committee! This year, we’ll be hosting hands-on workshops to teach students the fundamentals of app & web development (-and even AI) regardless of your experience! We’ll also be partnering with the competitions director of CSO to showcase your apps in International competitions, so make sure to attend. Students of any track and level of experience are welcome to join. Make sure keep an eye out for our General Assembly announcement and meeting soon!

Girls Who Code

We are the TAMS Girls Who Code committee within CSO, dedicated to empowering girls to explore and learn more about computer science. Through workshops, events, and introductions to coding competitions and tech careers, we create opportunities for growth and discovery. Our mission is to encourage girls in the Denton area to pursue computer science careers by partnering with the national Girls Who Code organization and volunteering in local schools. Join us to help close the gender gap and redefine what it means to be a woman in STEM!

The cybersecurity committee aims to introduce our peers and community members to cybersecurity through lessons dedicated to teaching the skills of ethical hacking and protecting digital systems. We compete through various competitions such as CyberPatriot, Carnegie Mellon's PicoCTF, and Lockheed Martin's Cyberquest. Join us to push the boundaries of your knowledge in computer science and learn hacking (ethical)!

Code-Ed is a volunteer committee under CSO that provides TAMS Students with opportunities to teach students in the Denton area about programming! Code-Ed aims to provide Denton elementary school students with opportunities to learn about programming through Scratch, Python, and other hands-on activities. Code-Ed will host weekly volunteer runs to a local Denton area elementary school with TAMS Student volunteers!

Bi-Bits (Bioinformatic Committee)

Bi-Bits is a project-based committee tackling the realm of Bioinformatics. We will be the classic career club explaining bioinformatics in general and assisting our fellow members in any of their bioinformatic endeveros. However, where we truly stand out is our once-a-year group project. Members of the committee will join the heads in publishing a paper on a bioinformatic research topic. Join Bi-Bits!

Society for Artificial Intelligence Learning (SAIL)

SAIL (Society for Artificial Intelligence Learning) does workshops every month going over different Machine Learning Models, how to use LLM API's, and other AI related programming skills.

During the fall semester, we will host a 1 day full workshop with guest speakers and step by step instruction so that participants can create their own "AI Passion Project."
